Makayla Noble Gives Heartwarming Update on Happiness After Paralysis


Makayla Noble, the high school cheerleader who was paralyzed in a freak accident last year, has said being happy is "easier" than she thought it would be following the incident, despite having to to deal with numerous mental and physical challenges.


The 17-year-old, who lives in Prosper, Texas, suffered a severe spinal cord injury on September 20, 2021 that left her paralyzed from the chest down and unable to move her hands.


The teenager spent several weeks in the hospital and a rehabilitation facility before finally being allowed to return home. She is currently undergoing therapy to improve her range of movement.


Noble, a world champion cheerleader, has received an outpouring of support from people in her local community, around the country, and even further afield.


Thousands of people are following the Facebook group "Makayla's Fight" where her family is posting regular updates about her progress, while more than $216,000 has been donated to a GoFundMe page set up to help with her medical expenses and other costs.


Since her accident, Noble has been posting video updates about her daily life on her social media accounts.


On January 31, the 17-year-old posted a video on her YouTube channel in which she answered several questions from her followers.


One was, "What is harder than you thought it would be and what is easier" since the accident?


To this, Noble responded: "I think everything is harder than I thought it was going to be—brushing my teeth, brushing my hair, makeup, being on my phone, pushing a button. It's all crazy."


"But being happier is easier than I thought it was going to be. I thought, 'Oh, my gosh, my life's over.' And everybody kind of expects you to think that way. So, the fact that I don't think it, even though sometimes I do in moments, I think that's easier."


Noble went on to say that before the accident she had moments, like many people do, where she felt her life "sucks" because of one specific thing, only for the feeling to disappear soon after. But she said her accident has given her a new perspective on life.


"I don't want my emotions to control me. So, it's good to have those moments and accept them, but then move on from them."


Earlier in the video, Noble had talked about how she had woken up "angry" because of her physical limitations and the nerve pain she has been experiencing.


"I feel like I can't really do anything by myself. Today's been a roller coaster of emotions. My nerve pain is extremely bad right now and I think that's just adding to it. I am just really struggling today with limitations."
